Step-by-Step Guide

Get involved in this exciting conservation program for all ages!

Pennies for the Planet provides kids with a hands-on way to learn about and help the fragile habitat at Eastern Egg Rock and the puffins that depend on it!

Here's your step-by-step guide for classrooms and youth organizations:

  1. Use this template to create fliers for your Pennies for the Planet fundraiser.  Just fill in your organization name, penny jar locations, and fundraiser end date.  You can hand the fliers out to people or go green by emailing them!
  2. Have kids complete the puffin coloring pages to give people a better idea of what Project Puffin does.
  3. Set a timeline and a goal for your Pennies for the Planet campaign.
  4. Have kids complete the letter for parents and send it home with them.
  5. Keep people motivated to donate by collecting coins in a large jar so everyone can see your progress.  Use this jar label so everyone knows that their coins will help Project Puffin.
  6. Use Audubon Adventures print and online materials to teach kids about the importance of protecting wildlife.  One of the latest issues, "Seabirds: Feathered Ocean Travelers" highlights Project Puffin.  Check out the puffin life cycle and then watch them in action on Eastern Egg Rock!
  7. Once your Pennies for the Planet campaign is over, mail your participation form and the funds you collected to National Audubon Society.
  8. Celebrate your success!  Congratulate all who participated on what they've learned and on their contribution to helping Project Puffin.

There are a ton of other ways to fundraise and learn about all kinds of habitats and animals that need your help.  Check out our Resource Room for some fun and creative ideas!
